Glossary for Sitecore Content Hub

Sitecore Content Hub is a suite of applications that are very powerful but being new to the product or these types of products you may be unsure what some of the terms are.  This page will list common terms related to Sitecore Content Hub, what they mean and links to additional information.

If you are not seeing a term here then it is possibly a general term related to DAM and you may find the definition on DAM Glossary If you still cannot find the term then email us and we can add it.

Actions 

Actions are components that perform a specific task. SEE Action Types for more info on the type supported.

Action Scripts 

Action Scripts are C# Scripts you can run to perform a specific task. SEE Actions for more info.

Action Types 

Currently, Sitecore Content Hub supports the following type of Actions:

  • Action scripts - Sometimes called Scripts these are C# Scripts.
  • API call - This allows you to post to any public API
  • Azure event hub - can send a message to an Azure event hub.
  • Azure service bus - can send a message to an Azure service bus.
  • Print entity generation - provides a mechanism to print to PDF for a list of entities
  • Reporting channel - log an entry to the system's reporting pipeline
  • M Azure service bus - send data to an internal service bus provided by Sitecore Content Hub.
  • Start state machine - automatically start a State flow via the action.

Content Marketing Platform (CMP) 

Content marketing platforms (CMPs) are software solutions that help marketing organizations reduce or eliminate the operational inefficiencies hindering content pipelines. CMPs streamline the process of strategizing, planning, creating, approving, and distributing marketing content.

Digital Asset Management (DAM)

This is a system that manages all your assets including workflow, versioning, digital rights management (DRM), metadata management, distribution and more. You can find a more detailed definition on DAM Glossary.

Datasource

In the documentation you may come across Datasource, this actually refers to Option Lists as found in the Manage option of Sitecore Content Hub. SEE Option Lists for more information

Downstream Platforms

These are systems that typically need to receive data and assets from upstream systems that have their data consolidated and enriched in Sitecore Content Hub. Sample integrations include Social Media Channels (Twitter, Facebook,...), Aprimo, Marketo, Sitecore, WordPress, Hybris, SharePoint, etc.

Entity

An entity is a thing in the system. Eg. Product, campaign, story, article, recipe, etc. Each entity consists of a list of properties defined by the Schema or Entity Definition.

Enterprise Resource Planning system

Enterprise resource planning is the integrated management of main business processes, often in real-time and mediated by software and technology. This is product definitions and SKUs, brands, catalogs, etc. These systems are important to your commerce solutions both online and offline. They are also important to marketers as they feed information they use to market the products and create related content.

Marketing Resource Management Solution (MRM)

Properties

A property is a field that describes an entity for eg. product number, campaign brief, brand name, etc.

Taxonomy

Taxonomy is a subset of Metadata that can have hierarchical data. 

Schema

Schema defines the structure or definition of the entity. In the API it is called Entity Definition. 

Upstream platforms

These are systems typically higher up in the marketing process, such as ERP systems, PLM, PCM and PIM systems, workflow, cycle planning, campaign management and MRM solutions, etc.
